Two friends say they are fulfilling a dream by opening their own hair salon in Yellowknife. The grand opening took place on Saturday.
Joban Aulakh and Anmol Kumar say Essence Hair Studio, inside the city’s Centre Square Mall, will operate from 9am-6pm seven days a week.

Aulakh described himself as having come from Punjab to Canada, where he has lived for the past five years. He said his parents, particularly his father, had inspired him to open a salon like this. His dad was on hand at the grand opening to see that vision realized.
Kumar said he and Aulakh met two or three years ago. “Since that day we have had a dream of opening our own business. Finally, we are here. I’m really excited about it,” he said.

At launch, the salon offers cuts for men and women, beard trimming and other services. Its owners say the services available will expand as the customer base grows.
“Our focus is giving a precise haircut, creating a good image for people and giving them inspiration to pursue in their life,” said Aulakh.
“If you’re going to come here, you can experience everything and then, when you go out, you’ll be happy. That’s my promise to you.”
