The Fort Smith bar outside which a shooting took place early Saturday says it is instituting new safety measures at the door.
On Tuesday, Dirty O’Fergie’s said a doorman will photograph visitors’ ID on a “dedicated device,” ask them to lift their jackets and have them empty their pockets before entering. Backpacks and large bags are banned.
“We know this is a little extra, but hey,” the bar wrote online, “we’d rather be safe than sorry.”
Three people were hurt – one with “life-altering injuries,” RCMP said – when shots were fired outside the bar midway through Fireweed Festival weekend.
Police have since accused Sheldon Tan, a Calgary 22-year-old, of being the gunman. Tan is next due in court in Yellowknife on Thursday.
