Police say aircraft are being sent to the location of two stranded boaters who left Yellowknife a week ago but failed to reach their destination of Łútsël K’é.
The two left the territorial capital on September 4 and were found on Thursday evening after being reported overdue, according to police. Both are uninjured, RCMP said in a Friday statement.
Supplies and a communication device have been dropped by air, police said, and the boaters will be brought to safety.
“It is believed that weather and mechanical issues were responsible for this incident,” RCMP stated.
Łútsël K’é Dene First Nation Chief James Marlowe told the CBC the two people, a man and a woman, had supplies to last a few days. How long a rescue will take was not immediately clear.

The search operation involved police, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary alongside community members.
