A new set of community meetings will be held now that the Mackenzie Valley Highway appears set to be built all the way from Wrigley to Inuvik in one shot.
While that “one shot” would still involve six sections and years of work, it’s a big shift from the previous approach, which was finishing Wrigley to Norman Wells then getting to the Inuvik portion at a later date.
The change means an environmental assessment of the project is being “rescoped,” in regulatory language, to cover the whole Wrigley-Inuvik highway.
The Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board is hosting fresh meetings as a consequence.
At those meetings, the GNWT will present an updated vision of the project and take questions. Residents will have an opportunity to give feedback.

Meeting dates are:
- Norman Wells at the Legion, September 22 from 3-8pm
- Fort Good Hope at the Community Hall, September 23 from 2-7pm
- Tulita at the Cultural Centre, September 24 from 3-8pm
Dinner will be provided, the GNWT stated in a Tuesday news release.
