Garry Bailey has been re-elected as president of the Northwest Territory Métis Nation, winning a sixth term in office.
Bailey’s victory was announced by members of his family and confirmed by Wally Schumann, who also ran for president in this week’s election at the NWT Métis Nation’s annual general assembly in Fort Smith.
Bailey has already served 14 years as president (three of his past five terms were for two years before term lengths were extended to four years in 2018). By the time his latest term expires, he will have occupied the office for nearly two decades.
