Yellowknife’s francophone cultural association has a new executive director and says it’s preparing to embark on a series of new projects.
In a news release last week, L’Association franco-culturelle de Yellowknife – or AFCY – said Francis Giguère had taken over as executive director and will meet with members of the city’s francophone community in the coming months to hear their needs and ideas.
“I am very pleased to put my experience to work for a community to which I am already deeply attached,” Giguère was quoted as saying in French.
“I want to help make the AFCY an open, welcoming and vibrant gathering place where Yellowknife’s Francophone community can connect, grow and share what it has to offer.”
AFCY said the appointment “marks the beginning of a new chapter” for the organization, with details of more projects to follow in the coming months.

“From cultural events and community activities to initiatives for diverse audiences and new collaborations,” AFCY stated in French, “the association intends to continue providing opportunities to gather, connect, and live in French in Yellowknife.”
