Investigators have now recovered the remaining pieces of aircraft from a fatal June plane crash near Fort Simpson, the Transportation Safety Board says.
In an update to its website, the TSB said a dive team working on September 23 was able to find missing tail pieces in a small lake near the crash site. Those pieces arrived in Edmonton for further investigation on Tuesday this week.
The aircraft’s left wing had been found during an earlier recovery attempt at the end of July.
The plane, a Rockwell International 690C operated by Buffalo Airways on behalf of the NWT’s wildfire agency, had three people on board, none of whom survived when it came down into an area of muskeg about 50 km from Fort Simpson.
The missing parts had been holding up efforts to understand what happened to cause the crash. The aircraft was providing tactical support for a water bomber when it came down.
Investigators are now “coordinating with interested parties to schedule a detailed examination of the aircraft,” the TSB said, work that will involve observers from Buffalo Airways.
Air attack officer Olivier Lamy, air attack officer trainee Ryan Beck and pilot Robert MacLeod lost their lives in the incident.
