The family of Tyler Mitchell say a celebration of his life will take place at Yellowknife’s Church of Christ, on Range Lake Road, from 1pm on Thursday, March 5.
Tyler was discovered deceased by a member of the public near the city’s Taylor Road on Wednesday last week. The NWT coroner service formally identified the body as that of the 34-year-old the following day.
In a short obituary posted to the website of the McKenna Funeral Home, family members wrote: “After a long and difficult battle with addiction, Tyler is now at rest with the Lord.
“Tyler was cremated and is now home.”
The obituary stated Tyler is survived by parents Katherine and Steven, brothers Matthew and David, son Alexander, maternal grandmother Arabella Prescott, and many extended family members and friends.
A separate event at the Vineyard Church will be held at a later date to be determined, the obituary noted.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donations be made to Yellowknife Street Outreach, St Vincent De Paul, or the Church of Christ.
