A program that offers funding to NWT-based film, TV and digital media producers is being relaunched to “address rising production costs” and strengthen competitiveness, the territory says.
In a Tuesday news release, the GNWT said its Producers Incentive Program now offers funding for “pre-development” projects of up to $15,000. The previous cap was $10,000.
Funding for projects actively in development can now go up to $35,000. The cap up till now was $25,000.
The territory also said it had strengthened “accountability” for recipients, including an improved reporting process.
In the past, critics of the NWT’s approach to the film sector have said its supports lagged behind those available elsewhere.
The updated Producers Incentive Program has a $200,000 annual budget.
