Inuvik RCMP say a 33-year-old from Delta, BC faces charges after drugs-related searches on Bompas Street and Bonnetplume Road over the past week.
In a Wednesday news release, police said the October 3 searches involved teams of specialized officers from the NWT and Yukon targeting suspected drug dealing.
At the Bompas Street location, police say they found about $5,000 in cash, a gun, phones and “drug paraphernalia.” On Bonnetplume Road, police say they found another $1,000 or so in cash and more paraphernalia.
Five people were arrested. The other four were released without charge.
According to RCMP, Iqbal Singh Dulay – detained at the Bompas Street property – is charged with cocaine trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime. He was already on an outstanding warrant from BC and is in custody, RCMP said, and more charges may follow as the investigation continues.
Police added a second BC man, 27-year-old Anthony Ashby, was separately arrested on October 1. Ashby is “wanted in the Yukon on various charges,” police stated, and has been transported to Whitehorse.
