Police in the NWT say they’re planning “increased patrols as well as additional check stops” throughout the territory over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
It’s part of an annual exercise named Operation Impact.
Over the 2025 Thanksgiving holiday, NWT police say they ran 39 check stops, checked 917 vehicles, and charged two impaired drivers. RCMP also reported eight alcohol-related licence suspensions and six seatbelt violation tickets.
Police say this year’s Operation Impact theme is “safety is in my hands.”
“Whether travelling across the territory or just across town, drivers are encouraged to make the right choices: plan ahead, drive sober, avoid distractions, obey posted speed limits, remain alert and well-rested, and ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly buckled up,” RCMP stated in a Friday news release.
