The NWT’s health authority has rolled out an online booking system for lab services and diagnostic imaging in Yellowknife.
The system is powered by a company named WaitWell – you decide what kind of omen that is – and allows you to book a range of lab-related services.
Collection hours at Stanton Territorial Hospital are also being extended, the health authority said. Those hours now run 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, having stopped at 3:30pm previously. The health authority said that meant 38 more outpatient appointments daily.
On Tuesday afternoon, selecting the option for blood work, Cabin Radio was able to see online that the next bookable appointment was for 4:40pm the same day, with more into the evening and on following days.
Tuesday’s announcements extend a process that began in 2024 of trying to open up lab services in a way that is easier for patients to navigate.
The health authority had previously said it was working to introduce online booking for some services. You can still book a lab services appointment by phone or in person.
Lab services at Yellowknife’s hospital are by appointment only, while downtown primary care offers only walk-in service (from 8am-3:30pm each weekday, closed 11:30am-12:30pm for lunch).
