The Tłı̨chǫ Government says it has added cameras to buses serving students at Behchokǫ̀’s Chief Jimmy Bruneau School to help ensure the safety of children and drivers.
On its website, the Tłı̨chǫ Government said the cameras will allow the school to “monitor activity on school buses, strengthen accountability, and support a safe and respectful environment for everyone on board.”
Footage will also be used when an incident or safety concern needs to be reviewed.
“The cameras can help staff better understand what happened if an incident occurs on the bus and provide useful information when addressing concerns,” the government stated.
“One lesson learned is that having clear safety measures in place can help prevent incidents and promote accountability. The project also showed the importance of working together with school staff and transportation providers to identify safety needs and find practical solutions that support students.”
