Inuvik Twin Lakes will have three candidates after Friday rush

Mackenzie Road in Inuvik. Emily Blake/Cabin Radio

Mataya Gillis, Jake Jellema and Sallie Ross are the three candidates in November’s Inuvik Twin Lakes by-election after a rush on nominations before the Friday deadline.

Ross was the only candidate on the ballot as of Friday morning. By the 2pm cut-off, Gillis and Jellema had been added to the list by Elections NWT.

The seat is vacant after Lesa Semmler, the former health minister, resigned in mid-September.

Polling day is scheduled for November 24.

In the past two territorial elections, Ross ran unsuccessfully in Inuvik Twin Lakes in 2019 and Inuvik Boot Lake in 2023. Gillis and Jellema are first-time candidates.
