An Inuvik teenager has been crowned Canada’s best young baker for the second year in a row.

Karis Dekwant, who graduated Grade 12 earlier this month, successfully defended her title in the baking category at the Skills Canada National Competition in Edmonton.

The 17-year-old, whose amazing creations can be seen on her Facebook page entitled Karis Cakes & More, was one of four Northwest Territories competitors on the podium on Wednesday.

Sir John Franklin High School’s Pyper Legge won silver in cooking, Dominion Diamond’s Robert Heron came third in electrical installations, and Ideal Woodworking’s Robert Warren took cabinetmaking bronze.
