Yellowknife RCMP say they have arrested a man in connection with armed robberies at various city stores after an earlier public appeal.
Police say Zander Sydney-Firth is linked to incidents at Yellowknife’s downtown liquor store and Circle K as well as a business on 52 Avenue that police did not identify.
RCMP appealed for help finding Sydney-Firth on Wednesday afternoon. Shortly after 8pm, officers said he had been “located and taken into custody without issue.”
According to police, a staff member at the downtown liquor store was threatened with a knife on February 6 when they tried to stop a man stealing bottles of alcohol.
Then, on Tuesday this week, staff at Circle K on Franklin Avenue reported a man coming behind the counter and threatening a worker with a large knife before stealing cash. “The staff member was physically assaulted during the incident but was not injured,” RCMP stated.
On Wednesday, the business on 52 Avenue reported a man entering the store and threatening a worker with a knife while demanding cash. “The employee suffered injuries that required treatment at the hospital,” RCMP stated.
