Canada’s military aerobatics team will take flight over Yellowknife in July, according to the latest schedule issued by the Canadian Armed Forces.
The Snowbirds, otherwise known as 431 Air Demonstration Squadron and considered an icon of Canadian aviation, are pencilled in for July 13 over the NWT capital.
It’ll be their first show after taking part in a Canada Day flyover in Ottawa.
Though details are sketchy so far, the Snowbirds’ visit appears to coincide with the return of the Yellowknife International Air Show on July 13-14. (The show is listed on various air show websites but no further detail was immediately available.)
If that’s the case, it’ll be the first Yellowknife International Air Show since before the pandemic.
The Snowbirds visited Yellowknife for the 2016 air show but a 2018 visit was cancelled and a 2020 trip was abandoned following the arrival of Covid-19.
The 2024 schedule was initially released in late 2023. Yellowknife remains in place on an updated schedule released by the Snowbirds on Saturday.
Saturday’s update adds a performance at this year’s Canadian Grand Prix F1 race and an appearance in Minnesota at the end of July.
A September 21 performance originally planned for Mirabel, Quebec will now take place over Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The summer season will end with a new date in El Paso, Texas in mid-October.
