The NWT Power Corporation says it has begun the process of recruiting a new leader after president and chief executive officer Cory Strang resigned.
Strang had made a “personal decision” to leave, a spokesperson told Cabin Radio. He will remain in the post until the end of 2026, having been appointed in late 2021.
The power corporation described him as the first northern, Indigenous leader of NTPC since its establishment in 1988. He has been with the corporation for 28 years, a Friday news release added.
Strang’s departure comes with NTPC already losing its chief financial officer to retirement.
The power corp is navigating multiple major challenges, ranging from years of low water levels – the Snare hydro system is still being affected, recent regulatory filings state – to soaring diesel costs and ageing infrastructure.
