The ferry connecting Wrigley to the rest of Canada could be out of action for a further 10 days, the NWT government said, over “specialized work and parts” needed for maintenance.

The Johnny Berens ferry moves road traffic back and forth across the Mackenzie River south of Wrigley, joining up two stretches of Highway 1.

The Department of Infrastructure said on June 13 the ferry would be “temporarily closed for essential maintenance until further notice.”

Now, a week later, the department says the ferry will remain “out of service for an extended period.”

“The closure is not anticipated to last longer than 10 days, but an update will be provided on Thursday, June 27,” the department stated in a news release.
