The Yellowknife Seniors’ Society will host “climate conversations” at the city’s Baker Centre on Tuesday as part of a national Seniors for Climate day of action.
The society, which is partnering with Ecology North on the event, says it is one of more than 70 taking place nationwide.
Bearing the motto “later is too late,” Seniors for Climate describes itself as an advocacy group “deeply alarmed by the climate crisis” and hoping to build a Canada-wide alliance of similarly concerned people.
Yellowknife Seniors’ Society president Wendy Bisaro said in a press release: “Seniors are concerned about the world our children and our grandchildren will have. We care about their safety and the effects of climate change such as more wildfires and threats to our food and water.”

The Yellowknife event, which begins at 5:30pm, features a potluck dinner alongside tables hosted by “experts with knowledge and expertise about the effects of the changing climate on our water, wildlife, permafrost, wildfires, food security, eco-anxiety, and our personal lives and family.”
