A strike at the Fort Simpson Housing Authority that lasted for more than a month and a half is coming to an end, the union involved says.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada said the members of the bargaining unit had voted to ratify a new collective agreement earlier on Friday.

The housing authority has declined to comment throughout the strike, which began at the start of October.

PSAC said workers are expected to return to work as early as Monday next week.

The union said their three-year deal includes “general economic increases that fall within half a percentage point of what Government of Northwest Territories workers have negotiated.”

While territorial agency Housing NWT oversees some aspects of how local housing authorities operate, the Fort Simpson authority’s workers are not GNWT staff.

Staff at the authority maintain public housing units in Fort Simpson, Jean Marie River, Sambaa K’e, Nahanni Butte and Wrigley.

PSAC has said the affected bargaining unit contained six to eight people.
