Organizations are holding a potluck this week with the aim of bringing together Yellowknifers of all ages to discuss climate change.
The event, hosted by Seniors for Climate Change, Ecology North and the Yellowknife Seniors Society, will focus on the City of Yellowknife’s upcoming climate action plan.
The organizations want interested community members to bring food to share and participate in “café table conversations” about actions to reduce carbon and methane emissions.
According to a Monday press release, table discussions will focus on six themes the organizations hope will be addressed in the city’s 2026-2036 climate action plan:

- housing and buildings;
- water use and quality;
- waste management and sewage
- transportation;
- air quality, cooling options and shared spaces; and
- information and communications.
The potluck and discussion is set to take place on Thursday, February 6 from 5:30-8pm at the Baker Community Centre.
The organizations previously held an event in November 2024 focused on the territorial government’s climate action plan and one in October 2024 as part of the national Seniors for Climate day of action.
Seniors for Climate’s Lois Little stated the previous events “created new relationships and empowered Yellowknifers individually and collectively to find ways to manage the dramatic changes in our climate.”
“Hopefully, this third potluck will strengthen those relationships and capacities to manage through the climate changes happening now and coming,” Little stated.
