APTN, CBC and Netflix said on Tuesday they have jointly renewed Arctic comedy series North of North for a second season.

“We’re going back to Ice Cove, baby,” star Anna Lambe declared on Instagram.

The show’s eight-episode first season was an instant hit with many northerners who saw their experience reflected in North of North’s depiction of a small northern community – the fictional Ice Cove – and the daily lives of its residents.

Lambe plays Siaja, whose attempts to navigate her personal and professional lives form the beating heart of the show.

North of North was released on CBC and APTN at the start of the year and more recently given a global release via Netflix.

According to the CBC, the show is the most-watched new series on its Gem streaming service since the platform launched. Netflix said the show debuted at number nine among its global top 10 English-language TV shows.

So far, the production dates and air dates of the second season have not been confirmed.

The first season was filmed in Iqaluit. The show’s creators are Inuit duo Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril.

North of North also features Maika Harper, Keira Belle Cooper, Kelly William, Braeden Clarke, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Jay Ryan, Zorga Qaunaq, Bailey Poching and Nutaaq Doreen Simmonds.

Multiple members of the production team and cast were previously associated with The Grizzlies, a 2018 drama about a lacrosse team from Kugluktuk.
