Rio Tinto has launched a showcase of 52 rare diamonds, including some from the NWT’s Diavik mine.

The company’s final Beyond Rare tender also includes diamonds from the company’s Australian Argyle mine, which ceased production in 2020.

Titled Into the Light, the entire collection weighs 45.44 carats – including a large carat yellow diamond from Diavik and two D-colour white diamonds with flawless clarity which were cut from the same rough diamond.

The Australian mine supplied some legacy inventory diamonds, including red, violet, pink, and purple diamonds.

“No other mining company in the world has custody of such an exquisite collection of diamond colours, shapes and sizes … It is hard to overstate the importance of this final collection from two extraordinarily beautiful places on Earth,” Patrick Coppens, a spokesperson for Rio Tinto, was quoted as saying.
