The Yellowknife International Film Festival has announced its lineup of panels, workshops, and networking events at this year’s film festival – including a new two-day youth filmmaking workshop.
Dubbed YKIDS, the free workshop is for youth ages 12 to 18 to learn how to develop and shoot a one-minute zombie film.
The workshop, which starts on November 8, will be led by Winnipeg’s Road to Freedom tour. The tour’s goal is to bring professional filmmaking to youth in Indigenous communities across the country.
All this year’s YKIFF programming for filmmakers and film enthusiasts runs over November 7-9, with the majority of events taking place at Yellowknife’s Explorer Hotel.
The industry guest list includes people from the Independent Production Fund, DOC Northwest, the National Film Board of Canada, Northwestel Community TV, and directors, producers, writers, and influencers from across North America.
The Pitch This! competition returns on November 8 at the Elks Club, where filmmakers will have a chance to win $5,000 in cash and $5,000 in equipment rentals to produce a film by pitching their idea to panel of judges.
There will also be workshops on projection mapping, pitching, scriptwriting, producing, and using artificial intelligence in filmmaking.
“As AI makes unprecedented changes around the world, the film industry is no exception, and we look forward to a two-hour workshop of AI tools for post-production,” Caroline Cox, a festival staff member and filmmaker, was quoted as saying.
Participants will have the opportunity to connect with industry experts by attending a funding panel, speed meetings, a table read, and a Saturday Soirée event at the Top Knight pub.
Tickets to the film festival’s events and film showings are available on the YKIFF website.
