Lead testing results are in for another three schools in the South Slave region.

Both Deninu School in Fort Resolution and Chief Sunrise Education Centre in Kátł’odeeche First Nation (KFN) have some water fixtures that indicate lead above maximum acceptable levels, the NWT government stated on Thursday.

Those fixtures will be out of service until they can be replaced or have filters installed.

Follow-up testing will then be completed before the public health orders for the schools in the two affected communities will be lifted.

At École Boréale in Hay River, testing indicated lead levels are below acceptable levels, so students and staff at the school can continue to use water as normal, the GNWT said.

In the meantime, alternate drinking water options will be provided.

All NWT schools are currently being tested for lead in the water after higher than acceptable levels were first found in Yellowknife schools earlier this year.
