The first baby born in the territory this year is Axel Akkak, arriving on the morning of New Year’s Day.
Akkak was born at 10:15am Wednesday at Stanton Territorial Hospital, the NWT Health and Social Services Authority confirmed. Akkak is also the first NWT baby to enter the new decade of 2020.
Akkak came a few hours earlier than 2019’s first baby, Griffin, who came into the world at 4:17pm January 1 last year.
The 10 lb 7 oz baby boy was born to Heather Akkak, who declined an interview.
