A month after YK woman vanished, investigation ‘remains active’

Police say their investigation into missing Yellowknife woman Sladjana Petrovic “remains active” despite no sign of her for a month.

Petrovic, 60, was last seen on Boxing Day leaving her 53 Street apartment and walking toward Franklin Avenue. Searches by RCMP and a publicity campaign led by her friends have turned up no evidence of what happened next.

Search and rescue organizations, police elsewhere in Canada, Interpol, and airlines have all been enlisted in efforts to locate Petrovic. Residents of Yellowknife were asked to search their properties and scour footage from security cameras in the hope of finding clues.

“Although no new lead to further the investigation has been brought forward … the investigation remains active and RCMP is still looking for information to locate Sladjana,” said police in a statement on Thursday.

“We understand this is a very difficult time for Sladjana’s friends and family,” said Insp Alex Laporte, commander of the Yellowknife detachment.

“We will continue to investigate Sladjana’s file and we will remain in contact with her loved ones and keep them updated if new information is brought forward.”

RCMP said the case is now being filed with the National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains.
