Yellowknife seniors’ group Avens is ending a major fundraiser after just over a year and half, saying it has received $673,454 to put toward enhancing rooms at its new Pavilion accommodation block.
In a news release, the group acknowledged it had set a target of $800,000 when the fundraiser began in late 2024 but termed the amount raised a success.
“This initiative has not only brought in vital funds but has also strengthened our community bonds,” Avens board chair Colleen Wellborn was quoted as saying.
“The Aven Pavilion represents a collaborative effort to ensure our seniors receive the care and support they deserve.”
Aven said naming rights within the Pavilion remain available for prospective donors. The building, which has 102 accessible housing units, formally opened in January 2025.
