Sallie Ross is the only accepted candidate so far in the Inuvik Twin Lakes by-election with nominations closing later on Friday, Elections NWT says.
The seat is vacant after Lesa Semmler, the former health minister, resigned in mid-September.
Polling day is scheduled for November 24, though Ross would be acclaimed if no other candidate’s papers are accepted.
Friday is the last day to submit nomination papers. The deadline is 2pm, after which candidates have until 5pm to withdraw.
In the past two territorial elections, Ross ran unsuccessfully in Inuvik Twin Lakes in 2019 and Inuvik Boot Lake in 2023.
She spent more than a decade working as a registered nurse and has previously pointed to priorities like the cost of living, housing, and absenteeism in schools.
