A precautionary boil water advisory issued for Sachs Harbour on February 9, 2026 because of damage to the water treatment system has been lifted nearly nine months later.
The advisory was issued because of “frozen intake and truck-fill pipes following extreme winter conditions,” the GNWT said in February.
The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation – or IRC – linked the advisory to supply chain and logistical challenges that meant not all parts for a new water treatment plant made it to the community before winter.
According to the IRC, essential equipment for the facility did not arrive in time and prevented proper operation of the system.
On Friday, the GNWT said the new water treatment plant was approved and “is functioning normally.”
The territorial government said there had been no illnesses associated with drinking water reported in the community, but residents and businesses should flush their water supply and clean their water holding tanks.
