Wrigley’s Johnny Berens ferry reopens after two weeks of issues

The MV Johnny Berens ferry is back in service on Highway 1 between Fort Simpson and Wrigley.

The NWT’s Department of Infrastructure announced the ferry’s return on Wednesday afternoon, nearly two weeks after first stating the boat needed essential maintenance.

The department had later provided an update stating the ferry would need an extended absence for “specialized work and parts.”

Highway 1 is the only road route to Wrigley, and the Mackenzie River forms an impassable barrier to traffic without the ferry in service.

“We thank travellers for their patience,” the department said after the two-week disruption.
