The owners of Yellowknife’s downtown A&W say the “permanent closure” of the franchise is only a few weeks away.
In a notice posted to the Yellowknife A&W Facebook page, owners Todd Stewart and Randy Caines said the restaurant will close at the end of December 2024.
They said the decision came “after much consideration and reflection on the challenges facing our operations,” though they didn’t elaborate on the nature of those challenges.
The two said the current management group had operated the restaurant since 2010. It was advertised for sale last year at an asking price of $250,000.
“We have had the privilege of being a part of countless moments shared by our customers and employees. Serving the people of Yellowknife has been an honour, and we are deeply grateful for your support and patronage,” they wrote.
When the pair acquired the franchise in 2010, they were both teachers in Yellowknife.
“This is something that I got into simply because there was an opportunity. I believe in the product and it’s a place my dad would take my brothers and I to when we were growing up,” Caines told NNSL at the time.
