A man from Fort McPherson has pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the 2023 death of Clara Blake.
Police initially charged Randall Blake, 28, with arson related to a residential house fire in Fort McPherson in December 2023.
RCMP said a person had been found deceased at the home. They later identified that person as Clara Blake, a 22-year-old woman from the community who had been reported missing.
After further investigation, police charged Randall Blake with manslaughter in late January 2024.
He pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge in NWT Supreme Court earlier this month, as first reported by the CBC.
A date for the sentencing hearing has not yet been set. Blake is expected to be sentenced for the charge in the summer in Fort McPherson.
Blake still faces two additional charges of recklessly causing damage by fire to a dwelling house and uttering a threat to burn another property. A lawyer representing the Crown said those charges are expected to be stayed following the sentencing hearing.
