Three new fires were spotted in the Dehcho region and one in the North Slave region on Wednesday.

Only one fire, six kilometres northeast of Bovie Lake, required fire crews to set up structure protection, NWT Fire stated.

That fire is 38 km east of Fort Liard and was caused by lightning. It is currently 12 hectares in size.

The Dehcho’s second new fire is 50 km northeast of Wrigley, while the third is 45 km east of Fort Simpson and 46 km northeast of Jean Marie River – and is across the Mackenzie River from both communities.

Both fires were caused by lightning and do not pose a risk to any infrastructure, the territory’s wildfire agency reported.

The North Slave’s new fire is on the northern point of Taché Lake, approximately 140 km west of Gamètì.

Near Fort Smith, the Tulip Lake fire continues to be held.

The NWT’s other two active fires, one 31 km northeast of Délı̨nę and the other 18 km northeast of Wrigley, are being fought by fire crews. No infrastructure is said to be at risk.
