Whatì has moved to an evacuation alert over the threat from a wildfire southwest of the community. "Be ready to evacuate on short notice," residents are told.
NWT Fire says a wildfire 15 km southwest of Whatì "has seen some growth to the north" on Tuesday as winds picked up. Whatì remains on evacuation notice.
Whatì residents are advised to be prepared in case of an evacuation as a wildfire burns 15km away. Meanwhile, Hay River and Fort Simpson have issued fire bans.
The week ahead will bring a "late-season ramp-up of fire weather conditions" in the North Slave, South Slave and Dehcho, the NWT's wildfire agency says.
